Come ride with me ... let's ride ... let's ride away ...
The landscape which inspires my paintings - riding by motorcycle from Badalucco and Montalto Ligure
I’ve been slowly getting to grips with the new Insta360 camera. It’s been a steep learning curve, using it in the studio to film myself while painting, and outside for my journeys around Sanremo.
It’s the post-production editing which takes the time. The 360° camera is recording everything around me as a giant photo sphere. Back at my studio desk, I’m taking on an editor’s role in deciding which part of the image sphere to use in the final video. I have to stitch together the camera angles and zoom effects, and make (almost) seamless transitions between shots. Bringing it all together to create a narrative of my journey.
For this trip, I’m taking you from the bustling village of Badalucco and up to the quaint village of Montalto Ligure. It’s a journey I often make when I simply want to get out and ride.
I hope you’ll take the time to join me. If you put the audio on then you’ll hear the dulcet tones of Skylark’s twin cylinder air cooled engine, and a rather clunky gearbox. It seems like I’m going a little fast through the villages, but it’s likely the perspective of the camera because, trust me, I don’t intend to run into anyone and have to face the local Carabinieri.
I hope the video streams well on your laptop, or phone, or whatever device you use. It’s the first time I’m using the Substack system to embed a video and I don’t know how it’ll come out. All feedback welcome.
What do you think of the massive white clouds unfolding against the deep azure sky? Awesome.
Often, you see these contrasts of colour, texture, form and movement in my abstract landscape paintings. It’s the landscape I travel through which inspires my work. I hope you feel the energy. 😋
About me
My name is David Bell and I’m an artist living in Sanremo, Italy. I write this blog for my band of supporters, giving an insight to my art and life generally living on the beautiful Riviera of Flowers.
Ciao4now … alla prossima.
David this journey with you is incredible. I felt the speed , the energy, the beaty of the landscape and the real hum and purr of the machine. It was like really experiencing it with you. There were some scary moments where I was worried you were going fast but it was amazing. It was brilliant when the camera seemed to flip and we were facing you as it also took in the wider landscape. This camera work is also really reflected well in your work with the colours and pigments of the sky and landscape. You must tell me more about the editing and the camera. You are really making such dramatic and dynamic work. I just love it and want more please.
Lovely piece of work all made easy by the beautiful landscape
